EMT-Basic Program

The EMT-Basic course is a comprehensive, hands-on, and interactive program designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in emergency medical services. Upon successful completion of the course requirements—including 202 hours of lecture and field/clinical experience—and successful completion of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination, students will earn National Certification. This certification allows graduates to apply for state and local licensure, which may lead to employment opportunities in pre-hospital settings (such as ambulance services and fire departments), hospital environments, and other healthcare-related fields.

As part of the course, students are required to complete a minimum of 24 hours of field/clinical experience. This requirement may be fulfilled by completing either two (2) 12-hour ambulance ride-alongs transporting patients, or a combination of one (1) 8-hour hospital emergency department observation and 16 hours of ambulance ride-along shifts. Field shifts may vary in length (8-, 10-, or 12-hour assignments) depending on availability. During these clinical experiences, students actively participate in patient assessments and assist with patient care, including but not limited to CPR, spinal immobilization, and airway management.

The curriculum is aligned with the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards, NREMT guidelines, and Title 22 regulations for the State of California. The total course length is 202 hours, inclusive of classroom instruction and field/clinical experience.

EMT-Basic classes are open to the public. Accelerated courses are led by experienced, working paramedics who enhance classroom instruction by sharing real-world field experiences and practical insights.
