EMT Bridge Class

This course is designed to prepare newly certified Emergency Medical Technicians for work in San Diego County. The course has been developed with the assistance of many local private ambulance agencies and local fire departments. Students will receive instruction in the following:

  • Overview of San Diego County Protocols
  • Patient Assessment and Scene Management
  • Ambulance Operations
    • Map Reading
    • Hospital Locations
    • Lifting and Moving
    • Radio Communications
    • Documentation
    • 12-lead placement
    • IV setup
    • CPAP setup
  • San Diego County BLS Skills overview
  • HAZMAT – First Responder Awareness (State Certification)
  • Advanced Airway Training (Combitube®/King® Airways)
  • Interview Techniques
  • Resume Writing

As part of the program, many local private ambulance agencies will be visiting the students over the course of the week. Students will have an opportunity to speak directly to and interact with people in the EMS community, many of those in a position to hire.

  1. If you’re nationally certified you should be able to upload your NREMT docs to San Diego’s EMS page The bridge class helps those EMT’s that are looking to increase their knowledge to work on an ALS ambulance. It’s good information but not a requirement of SDFD.

  2. Was wondering how the program worked and breaks down. I wanted to get certified to be an EMT what do I need to get enrolled into the classes that would be able to help me achieve this?
